The expertise was already there. The company around it was not.

Dragon Gongfu began with deep knowledge of rare Puer tea, strong sourcing relationships, exceptional product, and a founder with a clear point of view about how the tea should be experienced.

What it did not yet have was the consumer company around that expertise: a brand, product system, packaging, photography, commerce experience, and operating structure capable of carrying the tea beyond the physical tea house.

Keeks built that layer around the founder’s expertise, then stayed until 2020 as the work expanded across products, commerce, content, vendors, fulfillment, and ongoing execution.

The founder led the tea expertise, sourcing, and product vision. Keeks built and operated the connected brand, product, commerce, and execution layer around it.

From rare-tea expertise to a complete consumer brand.

Four stages show how the work expanded from the founder’s tea expertise into a complete operating company. Each layer connected to the next; none stood alone.

  1. 01The expertiseRare Puer knowledge, sourcing access, product quality, and a clear point of view.
  2. 02The brandPositioning, identity, packaging, photography, and customer-facing language.
  3. 03The product and commerce systemTins, sachets, boxes, product formats, website, education, and e-commerce.
  4. 04The embedded partnershipVendors, inventory, fulfillment, content, distribution support, and ongoing execution through 2020.

The brand had to make rare tea understandable without making it ordinary.

Puer was unfamiliar to many of the customers Dragon Gongfu wanted to reach. The brand had to communicate rarity, age, origin, ritual, and quality without turning the product into something inaccessible or generic.

Keeks developed the identity, packaging language, product copy, and customer-facing story around the founder’s expertise. The visual system used dark materials, gold details, custom product marks, and a tightly controlled palette to give the teas a recognizable house while leaving room for individual products to feel distinct.

The packaging became the product system.

As the product line expanded, the identity had to work across tins, labels, sachets, pouches, boxes, and new formats without becoming a different brand every time.

Keeks designed the packaging system from the larger visual language down to production details such as labels, finishes, color relationships, and physical presentation. Each product could carry its own flavor and format while still belonging unmistakably to Dragon Gongfu.

The product line kept expanding.

Loose leaf asked a lot of a new customer. Dragon Scales was the answer: aged Puer in a compostable pyramid sachet, sold as its own product line alongside the loose-leaf tins and priced as its own tier in the wholesale range.

Keeks designed the format into the brand: the Dragon Scales name, the labels that carried it down to the sachet count and weight, and the box structures the new format needed. A new format could enter the existing system without starting a second one.

The product needed to look as considered as it was.

Keeks photographed the Dragon Gongfu product line for the website, e-commerce, launches, and marketing materials.

The photography gave the packaging, tea, brewing ritual, and physical details a consistent visual world, so customers could understand the quality of an unfamiliar product before they ever tasted it.

The website had to teach before it could sell.

Many customers reaching Dragon Gongfu had never purchased rare Puer tea before. The commerce experience had to explain origin, preparation, flavor, quality, and product differences while still making the path to purchase simple.

Keeks designed and built the website and e-commerce experience, structured the product and educational content, created the product photography, and connected the brand story to the buying path. The result was a national direct-to-consumer presence that extended the business beyond the physical tea house.

Dragon Gongfu marketing and content: social, an out-of-home ad, and a promotion, educating and reaching customers

The same brand had to work beyond direct sales.

Dragon Gongfu also needed materials for wholesale and partner conversations. Keeks extended the same product language, imagery, and packaging system into sales and wholesale materials so the brand stayed consistent as the audience changed.

The visible brand depended on work customers never saw.

Behind each launch were production files, vendors, inventory, storage, fulfillment, shipping, customer communication, and ongoing content.

Across the partnership, Keeks helped carry that connected execution so the brand, products, commerce, and operations could move together.

The founder led the tea expertise, sourcing, and product vision. Keeks carried the connected business execution around it.

Work across four layers.

One client. All four layers. Brand, product, commerce, and operations had to move together.

Where it ended.

Dragon Gongfu closed in September 2020, after the Almeda Fire destroyed the tea inventory, packaging, machinery, and materials the business depended on.
